About Titanium Scrap Value

Titanium's scrap value comes from its unique combination of high strength, low density, and corrosion resistance. Titanium is 45% lighter than steel but as strong, making it irreplaceable in aerospace, medical, and marine applications. The high cost of primary titanium production (the Kroll process) means recycled titanium is extremely valuable to manufacturers.

Grade 5 Titanium (6Al-4V) — The Most Valuable Grade

Grade 5, also called Ti-6Al-4V or simply "6-4," is the most widely used titanium alloy (60% of all titanium production). It contains 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is found in jet engine fan blades, airframe structural components, landing gear, and medical implants. Grade 5 commands the highest scrap price.

How to Identify Titanium

Titanium is silver-gray, non-magnetic, and very light for its size. It produces a distinctive white spark when ground (unlike stainless steel which produces orange sparks). It is often stamped with "Ti," "Grade 5," or "6Al-4V." XRF testing confirms the grade.
